Effective September 1, 2009 DSA is implementing a new Check Processing Policy. You will be required to read and accept the Terms and Conditions prior to paying for a class.

New Requirements for Project Inspectors: Effective January 1, 2009, all Project Inspector Exam applicants must provide evidence of attendance and completion of the DSA Academy Project Inspector Overview Class. This will take effect for the Inspector Program March 2009 exam. For more information on these new requirements please visit the Project Inspector Program website at http://www.dsa.dgs.ca.gov/Inspector

Senate Bill (SB) 1608 and the California Architect’s Board (CAB): SB 1608 requires that all California Architects complete coursework on disabled access requirements and provide documentation from that course to the CAB as a condition of license renewal. Currently the California Architect’s Board lists the DSA office as one of the training providers; however DSA does not make the decision if the CAB will accept our training classes as part of their licensing requirements. For further information please contact the California Architect’s Board regarding their policy on this new requirement.

History of the Academy:
The Division of the State Architect (DSA) Academy opened for business in April 2006, with the vision to create consistency in the application of building codes and regulations. Consistency that will result in safer schools, built more quickly, more efficiently and more cost-effectively.

As the State of California’s policy leader for design and construction, the DSA works to ensure that Kindergarten through 12th grade schools and community colleges are designed and built according to the appropriate codes and regulations. In doing so, DSA helps keep both people and property safe.

The DSA Academy offered classes on four subjects in the first year, training over 600 students in both Northern and Southern California. To meet the ongoing needs of the many people involved in school building (school employees, private design professionals and engineers, DSA staff, construction managers, project inspectors, and others) the DSA Academy continually develops and refines class and course material with nine subjects developed at this time.
